In 2008, the Ernst-August-Galerie in Hannover was opened directly adjacent to the train station. This inner-city shopping centre is a project managed by the internationally active company, ECE Projektmanagement GmbH from Hamburg, Germany. Located in the heart of the regional capital, the centre was developed with 30,000 square metres of retail space over three floors.Ā  In planning the building, Ulrich Zech incorporated structural elements from the adjacent train station, using 5,000 square metres of Oberkirchner SandsteinĀ® in a construction period of only six months.
